Reading Is Fundamental

There's a feeling that rumbles inside of me every time I think about the famous phrase "If you want to hide something from a n*** put it in a book." I heard this many many years ago and I understand why my grandmother Josephine taught all of her grandchildren how to read by the age of 5.
Reading is a way that I pass time, it's a way that I calm myself down and also a way that I grow as a woman. I read self help books that will get me in front of the clients and customers that I set out to serve when starting Theblkyogitribe LLC.

I want to share a few things that I've learned from my journey of reading as a hobby and habit with you:
#1 Just because you by the book doesn't mean you have to read the book from cover to cover.
I know I know.... sometimes you'll beat yourself up because the book starts off a little slow and you end up putting it down but so what! I buy books all the time that are right for me but the timing is just off. I have books that I've had for years now that only made sense to me more recently.
#2 Read a little at a time.
I try my best to read at least 10 pages at a time. I got into this habit when I first started the #75HardChallenge and it's been something that has stuck with me ever since. If you read 10 pages every time you sit to read the book pretty soon you'll be done! Practice makes progress, not perfection - remember that!
#3 Share what you're reading with others
Talk about the books you read and apply the knowledge. Knowledge is wisdom applied. You read the book for a reason right? It helped you in some way, yeah? Ok so share it! I find that the more that I talk about the book(s) that I am reading or that I've read in the past, it allows me to stretch and grow in ways that only doing the work can produce.
I talk about reading all the time and I want to make reading cool again (not sure if it ever wasn't)! I hope that we put the phones down more and pick up the books. My sovereign prayer is that we continue to elevate as a people through reading, story telling and sharing.
